We are having a little warm spell here. The other day it was -20 with the windchill but yesterday I woke of to strong winds, melting snow and above freezing temperatures. The sun was out and was lighting up the mountains across the water from town. The view out of my bedroom window was pretty spectacular.

I was out for a walk this morning; walking up the road that goes towards the dump. About half way up I saw something moving just of to the side of the road. I looked over just in time to see a snowy owl take off and fly out towards the water. I didn't even try to get a photo of is as my camera was in my pocket and would take forever to turn on etc. But I did take the camera out and take a photo of where the owl was however. Yes, so picture this scene below with a lovely snowy owl flying off into the horizon and you will have what I saw. That other white thing you see in the water is not an owl but an iceberg.

I noticed something moving outside the window yesterday and when I took a look I saw a couple of loose sled dog running around through the snow. They were chasing each other and pouncing in the snow. It appeared that they were hunting for lemmings. Some of the drifts were pretty deep. It didn't look like they were having much luck but they certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves. After all they were loose. One of them eventually just lay down in the snow while the other one continued the hunt. I opened up my window and called to them and whistles to them. I got their attention but they didn't seem to eager to come over. They had this look about them like "Oh oh, we've been made". Anyways it was fun to watch even though in all reality they were probably starving and sure could have used a lemming or two.

There is a lot of snow here. It keeps snowing. Ok, there is not a ton of snow, it's just more than I expected for September. It's deep and fluffy. It's sticking to my window. I can't wait until it gets hard so I can walk on top of it. Right now it's just hiding the round slippery rocks underneath and making it difficult to get around and go for a walk. Also the view has become pretty boring. Basically just a whitish grey thing going on.

We were down at the beach having a little bonfire and low a behold a small pod of seals popped up in the water a little ways out. At first (wishful thinking) it appeared to be a bowhead whale as it seemed there was a rolling action through the water that might indicate the back of a whale. But after watching for some time we could see many little heads come out of the water, bobbing up and down. I thought I may have got them with the camera this time but really all you can see is so disturbance in the water where they were bobbing up and down (near the center of the photo...really...no joke).
There was also a flock of snowgeese dive bombing us, doing fly-bys. I actually got a photo of them and you really can see them. Also another view of the beach from the reverse angle (no birds).

First comes the snow, then comes the darkness. They say it's a little late this year. The snow that is.

I'm puppy sitting this little devil for a couple of days. I got home at lunch and there was poo and pee everywhere. I took her for a walk. I got home after work and there was poo and pee everywhere. I took her for a walk. I let her in the house to play and wrestle around a bit and within 10 minutes she had peed on the carpet twice. Ok, so I take it this puppy is nowhere near trained yet. Ugg.

Now that the sun is starting to sink low earlier in the evening there is starting to be a bit of colour in the sunsets. If you look closely at the rocks and shrubs on the ground they get some of that warm colour glow on them which highlights their natural colours. Yes, it's pretty.

I found the best blueberry patch yet yesterday. But I'll be damned if I can find it again today. It was small but the berries were pretty dense on it.

These fuzzy little arctic plants were collecting the dew pretty good today. The fog was moving around quite a bit the last couple of days making everything wet.

So I have been going up the hill out behind my apartment and visiting this dog sled team. There are five of them altogether. Usually I only see four of them out there standing up and looking at me, wagging tails, whining and showing general interest. The fifth one is usually stays in the one and only dog house. Today all five were out sunning themselves. As I got closer the four regulars got up and started greeting me as I approached. The fifth one was looking away, showing no interest in all. He (she?) didn't even bother getting up. As I got closer I noticed the "aloof dog" bared a striking resemblance to some other little sled dog I know. Here is some photos of the happy little pack.

The weekend is here so I can finally relax a little bit and just goof around. Spend some time looking at some old pictures and thinking of Mack and of Bandit too. This is one of my favourite photos of them when we were out for the day picking berries and taking photos. The day before Bandit was attacked by a loose sled dog and was scared pretty bad (being a half greyhound you could imagine). He stayed pretty close to Mack that day and with good reason as Mack always had his back. So here is a great picture (if I do say so myself) of a couple of buddies enjoying the sunshine and bug clearing breeze on a lazy day.

As I went for my evening walk across the tundra, up the hill towards the dump and sewage lagoon, the air filled with a pungent aroma, I noticed that the sun was actually starting to set at a fairly decent hour. I may regain some of my lost sleep yet.

New math lesson for today.
Q1) Tyler goes to the store and buys 1.35 kg of apples for $12.00 and 2.0 kg of French Fries for $8.00. What does that mean? Correct, Tyler will be eating a lot of French Fries this year.
Q2) A "non-reusable" plastic grocery bag is sold for $0.25 each at the store when purchasing groceries. What does this mean? The actual answer is: Tyler will take two of them to balance out the apples and French Fry load and then "re-use" them as garbage bags. In your face Northern Store with your "non-reusable" plastic bags.

There were supposed to be "hundreds" of narwhal out in the water today. All I could see were boats looking for them. They are probably hiding under the water. So here is a picture of them hiding under the water.
